Course Care
Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club is dedicated to maintaining quality playing surfaces for the enjoyment of our members and guests.
When playing your round at Twin Creeks we ask that you observe the following areas. These few simple steps will greatly assist our greens staff and ensure an enjoyable round for all golfers on course.
Repairing Pitch Marks
Pitch marks can impact the playing surface of the green and in turn affect a player’s score. To maintain healthy greens it is important that golfers repair pitch marks and equally important that it be done correctly. Pitch marks that are not repaired may result in death of the grass within the ball mark depression. Similarly, pitch marks that are not repaired correctly can also have long term damaging effects to the playing surface.
- Use a pitch mark repair tool often referred to as a divot tool.
- Insert the tool into the turf at the edge of the depression (not into the depression itself)
- In a gentle forward twisting motion push the edge of the grass towards the centre of the depression (do not insert the tool at an angle or use the tool to push up the bottom of the depression as this can kill the grass roots).
- Work around the edge of the depression pushing the grass towards the centre as you go.
- Once ‘repaired’ gently depress the area with your putter or foot to smooth the surface.
Raking Bunkers
- Always enter and leave a bunker at the lowest point.
- After playing your shot, smooth the area of play and any foot prints with a rake if available. If a rake is not available, smooth the area with the side of your shoe, using light even pressure and gliding in a circular motion until the area is level.
- Ensure foot prints are raked behind you as you exit a bunker.
- Always replace the rake to the bunker in the direction of play.
Filling Divots
Sand shakers are supplied to each golf cart and can be refilled from sand boxes around the course. Sand buckets are also available with pull buggies or for golfers choosing to walk the Couse.
- To assist with keeping the golf course is top condition divots should always be repaired as follows:
- If possible retrieve the original slice of grass that has been cut away by your club and replace it in the divot hole
- Shake a small amount of sand over the piece of grass to fill in any gaps. Press down with your foot to secure it in place.
- Ensure that the replaced grass and sand is level with the rest of the playing surface.
- Where the grass patch cannot be replaced, use sand to fill the divot hole and smooth over so that a flat lie remains.
Golf Cart & Pull Buggy Use
Golf carts can be damaging to the golf course if not used correctly. The following should be observed when using golf carts and pull buggies on course at Twin Creeks.
- Always follow directional signs when out on course.
- Use designated pathways whenever possible.
- Observe out of bounds area’s marked by rope and/or barricades.
- Do not drive a golf cart or operate a pull buggy on the green.
- If unsure, always check with ProShop staff.
Committed to safe maintenance practices and minimising our environmental impact.
Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club is a proud member of the NSW Golf Course Superintendents Association (NSWGCSA).
Once of the major issues facing golf courses in Australia and around the world is maintenance practices and their impact to the environment. Many golf courses use fertilizers and chemicals that are harmful and can cause significant impact to the environment not to mention the potential risks to our staff administering these products.
This association provides a platform for the exchange of ideas between Golf Course Superintendents from around NSW and has recently rolled out a ‘Minimum Standards Compliance Program’ to educate and help turf professionals better manage practices in the use of pesticides and to maintain environmental standards.
We will continue to adopt new practices in line with this association for the Environmental Sustainability of our Golf Course.
We are proud to be considered as an industry leader when it comes to golf course maintenance and we will continue to strive to be benchmarked as the best in Australia.
